I found this yesterday while looking up student discounts for anything I can find. I registered, looked at what info was needed and called this morning. Here's a breakdown of my experience:

1. Called the 866 number, there was no option 3 for me so I chose option 1, the migration option
2. Rep asked how can she help me, I told her i was a member of StudentRate and if I can use their corporate promo discount code.
3. She asked for my Name, Phone number for the line, and last digits of my Social.
4. Then she asked for Member ID# which i gave her my Student ID#
5. Asked for Work# or Email Address - I gave her Promo Code
6. She sent me to an Automated contract agreement
7. Finished and on my way to getting 10% off my bill
8. Happy Camper

Hope this helps

Hi,

I am an  International student at  Johns  Hopkins University  for my MS .

I called up T - mobile for   this  offer providing them the promo code and letting them know that I am a studentrate customer .

After Inquiring everything they told me  that I need  to have a SSN and they need to check a credit check in order to get me that  discount .

I am a new student and I want to know if you can help me out in any way .

P.S> :- When I went o my nearest T - mobile store they  told me that I can do  a  2 year  contract with t - mobile without requiring a  credit check or SSN,since I am on a F- 1 Visa . I would request you if  you could kindly help me out .

My ZIP Code is   :- 21210  and I live in Baltimore, Maryland .

I am seriously interested in this offer . I am especially interested in Samsung Galaxy s 4G  which would cost  $ 49.99 after  $50 mail in rebate .

Hope   to hear from you soon .

My Alternate E- Mail Id for contacting is  :- tyagi.1986@gmail.com

Free Galaxy S on T-Mo with the 10% student discount is a pretty sweet deal. I'm still hesitant to get the iPhone on Sprint though.... ahhhh

I signed up yesterday and it worked. As others have said, I used the StudentRate phone number, my student id and email and that was it. They didn't even complain that we have an unlimited loyalty family plan (last time I tried to sign up with a corporate discount, they said they couldn't do it because our plan was already discounted), which is great.

Thanks all!

The CS rep on the phone seemed confused about the $50 service credit. I activated a new line and got the 10% discount but now I'm not sure if there is something else I should do to get the $50....

This is normal. If you look at the fine print in the deal it specifies that the $50 service credit will not be applied by the rep on the phone. It will be credited on your bill 30 days after :)

yes of course.  just call the toll free number and give them the promo code and ask them to migrate your account to the discounted program.
